Institute of Brand and Innovation Law: Brands Seminar 2010

Trade Marks and the Internet

About this event
This seminar will examine the problems raised when online technology meets trade mark law, from the point of view of both brand owners and online service providers. Our international panel of speakers will consider recent domestic and ECJ cases such as L’Oreal v eBay and Google. Topics for discussion include:

  • the use of trade marks on internet auction sites;
  • the sale of trade marks as advertising keywords;
  • secondary liability for trade mark infringement and its relationship to secondary liability for IPR infringement more generally; and
  • the wider question of whether the advent of new technology should bring with it a change to well-established intellectual property rules.
